FAS works to improve foreign market access for U.S. products, build new markets, improve the competitive position of U.S. agriculture in the global marketplace, and provide food aid and technical assistance to foreign countries.

Duty Location:

Washington, DC

Length of Scholarship:

2 Years

Desired Majors:

Economics or International Relations

Must have 21 semester hours (either undergraduate or graduate) in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus prior to completion of graduate program.

Academic Level:

Graduate (student must have a Bachelor’s degree and seeking a Master’s degree).

Position Title

Agricultural Economist

Position Description:

Develop and maintain economic data on world acreage, production, yields, consumption, stocks, trade and prices of agricultural commodities and products.Analyze and appraise the effects of economic plans, policies, programs, and other factors of specific foreign governments.Analyze and evaluate factors which influence international trade in agricultural commodities.Analyze market potential for US agricultural commodities and products in foreign markets.Analyze and report the impact of foreign agricultural, economic, and political and policy developments on the US agricultural trade situation.

Desired Skills:

Experience with statistical and quantitative tequniques.Must possess leadership skills, adaptability, be a team player, and technical and communication skills.
